Ryan Davis

The guy doesn't have a weakside. In 2008 I watched this guy shred some serious gnar in the UK. If I remember right he hit both wake 5 fronts and then both wake back to air 5 fronts in his first pass!!!

Skyhanger's Progression

I went to the Team Carolina event a few weeks ago and had a blast. Saw some old friends and met plenty of new ones. Big thanks to George and Doris for driving me, scoring, judging, and everything. Big thanks to Dave Brunt and his family for the food, the roof over my head, and the pulls. Congrats to Shannon for grabbing the top spot in the country. But don't call it a comeback, cause he's been here for years, and rocking his peers, putting suckas in fear. lol

As for the event itself. I could writeup an entire article of how awesome it was, but to stay on topic I'll just summarize it. EXTREMELY BRIGHT YELLOW Team Carolina T-shirts that'll make you want to techno rave, free monster energy drinks, celebrating Alisa's birthday over the telephone, two left black eyes, spectators, amazing riding, beers, late night magic tricks and puzzles, stories, photos, and 4 different video cameras running at the same time. Now back on topic...

Its really cool to do my personal best (by a longshot) and still get edged out of the RiderCup. What I mean by that is that the competitive kneeboarding is alive and well and that is awesome and healthy for the sport. I feel this is true, especially for this year. Everyone is on their toes ready to hit their personal bests and then improve on their personal bests by the next event.

Last month, a respectable 3,010 score would get you into the Ridecup. After the Team Carolina event... you would have to score 3,870 or higher. An event called Stokapalooza (greatest name ever) is coming up this weekend in Lake Placid, Florida. It wouldn't surprise me in the least to see the score to beat become 4,000 or even higher.

The following weekend is the Last Chance in Georgia and Minnesota( and everywhere for that matter). This is going to be the real kicker. After these events, the best 7 riders in the USA will be announced and will represent the U.S.A. in the International Competition. More pictures, videos, articles, and news to come.

So get your practice in asap and get to these events.

Spread the Stoke

New Shredders

Tina Farley (my sister inlaw) filmed and took pictures of Jay Farley (my brother/ legendary barefooter) and our friends Mike Knox, and Jonathan Spencer...aswell as kneeboarding's newest shredders... Jacob Shaw and Ethan Shaw (my nephews). This brings back some seriously awesome memories of my first few times on a kneeboard with my brother. I was 6 and he was 16. There is no better feeling than being on the lake with the family. I'm very stoked to see both Ethan and Jacob out there riding, and Jacob even learned how to barefoot.

Mario Fossa featured in Brad Paisely's- Water

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-9UeRSp8pw8

Its nice to see kneeboarding getting a little national air time television for once. If you've ever seen the Mario Fossa's kneeboarding film "Getting Dizzy" you'll recognize the 5 clips of Mario shredding featured in Brad Paisely's- "Water".

2:44- Jacking the mountain dew

3:02- Mario's dog shredding

3:13- Riding behind, and I quote, "one horse power"

3:29- Shredding with his dog

and my favorite clip

4:09- Airing over the fisherman

The song is brand new and it already has 76,650 views on youtube alone (not even mentioning how many more views it will have or how many people will watch it on television). That is huge. Look up kneeboarding on youtube and see how many views the most viewed videos are. Now look at how long they have been up.

I wonder how many of those people will watch it and wondered "What is that? Let's try it." It might be a small percentage, it might be a few people. Either way, I'm sure there will be a few more people stoked to try it out after that video. Lets be stoked for them aswell as be stoked for Mario for representing.

The Season Is Here

The weather is warm, we just had our first event, and the shredding has already been kicked up to another level.

This last Saturday on May 8th, I traveled down to Lake Placid to ride at the skionee event and hangout with some friends I haven't seen in a while. The riders included myself, Alisa Piper, Mark Ritchart, Hal Lict, Amanda Davis, aswell as others. Its funny how everyone was supposedly rusty because they haven't ridden in so long, and they go out and ride like they've been practicing all week. Special thanks to George and Doris Rohner (everything), Mark Ritchart (juding), Denys Anderson (safety), Ed Sauls (driving) and anyone I may have forgoten that help put the event on.

Later in the day we went on an epic pontoon boat ride adventure with Wesley McDougal, Brooke Grassman, Alisa Piper, Chris Brown, Amanda Davis, Jared Bohlen, and Patrick Kimery.

After I left to go back to Orlando on Sunday, (WHY DID I HAVE TO GO BACK TO WORK THAT DAY!!!) I was notified that both Jared and Alisa both stomped some new moves!!! I'm currently not at liberty to expose specifically what they are, only because we want to keep them secret so that there are some surprises when you watch Passion. But I can say that Jared's was a combo that I'm pretty sure has never been done before and Alisa's was a wake move that I believe was a first for the ladies ever. I did not expect so much progression at the very beginning of the season. I think its a sign of good things to come.

(Trip to North Carolina event in 3 days) :) STOKED!!!

RIP Glynn and Chris Landry

On May 2nd Glynn Landry was in a car accident caused by his car hydroplaining on a dangerous curve on a highway in Louisiana. His car slid sideways and was hit broad side by a pickup truck going the other way. Glynn was pronounced dead at the scene the night of May 2nd. He also had his son Chris, age 14, riding with him. Chris was on life support for two days, but had passed away on the 4th of May. Chris had never awoken from the accident. Glynn leaves a wife, Krystal and a son Nick, who is 12 years old. The funeral is on May 8th and there is more information here.

I met Glynn at the 2005 Nationals in Georgia. The first day we became instant friends. The guy was a great kneeboarder, noone in the world could touch his invert fronts with a ten foot pole. Even more amazing was that he was an even better person. We went to a few events together. He was always very happy and stoked on kneeboarding. We talked about making a kneeboard film and when he was getting married he even invited me to his wedding. We miss you bro, but I have no doubts that you're in a better place where the water is always smooth. Rest in Peace

We as a community send our thoughts and prayers to the Landry family.

Trick Tip- Over Line 360

Time to get back to basics and most of you can do regular 360 and some of you may not be able to do one so here is one that you all can do and it is also easy for you to teach your friends once you can do it. It is an easy one, but can be a little tricky to learn at first. I think most of you will get it on your first or second attempt.

With this trick I find it easiest if you have your arms out as straight as you can get them and bend forward at the waist a little for a start. Now we are going to want to pull as hard on the rope as we can and bring the handle to your hip and sit up straight all in one smooth motion. This will create slack rope which you need so you can cross over the rope.

Now that you have your slack rope you want to release one hand and place the hand with the rope out to the side and in the water this will start your rotation. At this time, you should also be looking at the handle and trying to get the nose of the board to cross over the rope.

Once you have started to turn and have started to cross over the rope remember to look in the direction that you are spinning. I found that with this trick, you have a lot of time to do it and you don't need to rush it.

By now you will be facing backwards and the kneeboard will have passed over the rope. All you need now is keep round till you see the boat and grab on to the handle with both hands.

I found that as I go 3/4 of the way around that the rope was starting to tighten up again and pulled me around straight again.

Now that your facing straight again, and ready to do your next trick, why not try spinning the other way now. All you have to do is repeat the process but spin the other way.

Tips: If you find that you are struggling to get over the rope in time you may need to do one of two things, one pull on the rope a little harder to allow yourself enough time to get over the rope and spin around or two dig the handle into the water deeper and harder start your spin.

Good luck with this one and remember if you struggling to get this trick or any other you can email me at Kneeboardvic@hotmail.com and I'll do my best to help you out.
